► InstituteCouncil Structure

Its Establishment, Structure and Financing

The FICA was established in 1972 in accordance with the FICA Act 1971. The Institute was founded with 123 members of whom 71 were Chartered Accountants with other professional accountancy bodies, and 52 were licensed accountants. The first Associate Accountant was admitted in November 1974 and the first Accounting Technician in February 1983.

A nine-member Council governs the Institute. The Institute President and Vice President head the Council. Council members are elected by the members at the Institute’s Annual General Meeting, in accordance with the procedures prescribed in the FICA Act 1971 and FIA Rules. The Council appoints members of the Institute’s various Committees.

The Current membership of the Council is as follows:

Rajeshwar Singh, President

Wiliki Takiveikata, Vice President

Tarlochan Singh

Pravinesh Singh

Mohit Raj

Susie King

Sharvek Naidu

Ravinesh Singh

Shaneel Nandan

The FICA Council appoints a number of specialised committees:

(1) Act and Rules;

(2) Branding, Awards & Communications;

(3) Business & Government;

(4) Congress;

(5) Disciplinary;

(6) International;

(7) Investigation;

(8) Membership & Accreditation;

(9) Peer Review;

(10) Professional Development;

(11) Standards

(12) Strategic Plan

(13) Women's Initiatives

In contrast to the professional accountancy bodies of many other developing countries – which are financially dependent on training income – FICA derives much of its revenues from admission and membership fees and from the FICA Annual Congress.
